REP. CARSON: BOAT STICKER PROGRAM LEGISLATION DIES IN COMMITTEE |

State Rep. Mary Ann Carson, R-New Fairfield, today said the Legislature’s Environment Committee did not move legislation forward needed to implement a proposed boat sticker program (BSP) for vessels using Candlewood Lake.
The BSP was proposed as a means to generate revenues to improve upon and fund the public safety portion of local lake management efforts, utilizing funds from both out-of-state and in-state users; but the committee’s lack of action on the bill means it will likely not be reconsidered this year.
The concept of a boat sticker program has been discussed by Candlewood Lake area residents for a number of years. Rep. Carson and state Rep. Clark Chapin, R-New Milford, recently held informational forums in New Fairfield and New Milford for local input on the proposal.
“I am thankful for the people who attended our recent forums. Their input was helpful should such legislation move forward in a future legislative session,” said Rep. Carson. “While there was not enough support on the Environment Committee to move this proposal forward this year, is important to note that bills are often heard for several years before they become law. The five area towns surrounding Candlewood can certainly pursue this issue in the future if they so desire.”
