Rep. Larry Cafero reacts to decision on special session

HARTFORD – House Republican Leader Lawrence F. Cafero Jr. today released the following statement regarding the decision by the Democrat majority not to convene in special session to address the state’s growing budget deficit on Friday, Jan. 2:

“I understand the logistical and expense issues in having a special session five days prior to a new legislature being sworn in. However, I also recognize the fiscal emergency that the State of Connecticut faces, and the need for the Legislature to act as quickly as possible. I applaud Rep. Donovan and Sen. Williams for setting Jan. 14 as a definitive date to act on the Governor’s mitigation plan,” said Cafero.

Cafero also reiterated his strong belief that with the budget deficit growing by the hour, the Legislature needs to act as soon as possible.
