REP. CHAPIN REAPPOINTED TO LEADERSHIP POSITION ON LEGISLATURE’S ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE

State Rep. Clark Chapin, R-New Milford, has been reappointed as Ranking Member (House Republican Leader) of the Legislature’s Environment Committee by House Republican Leader-elect, Lawrence Cafero, R-Norwalk. He has served as a member of the committee since joining the General Assembly in January 2001.

Rep. Chapin was elected to his fourth term representing the 67th District, which is comprised of the majority of New Milford, in the House of Representatives on November 7. In 2007, he also expects to serve as a member of the Appropriations committee and Human Services committee.

“Clark Chapin has served as a tremendous leader for our caucus on the Environment Committee,” said Rep. Cafero. “He has an outstanding grasp of the complex issues that come before the committee and truly recognizes the need to balance responsible development with protecting our natural resources.”

Rep. Chapin’s leadership on the Environment Committee was recently recognized by the Connecticut Water Works Association, when it bestowed its ‘Legislator of the Year Award’ for his leadership on issues affecting Connecticut’s public water supplies and water quality.

His strong advocacy for agriculture during his tenure in the Legislature has also been recognized by the Connecticut Farm Bureau Association, which named him its "Legislator of the Year" in both 2003 and 2005. In bestowing the award, the association lauded his work on the Environment Committee and commended his experience and knowledge of agricultural issues.

“Everyone appreciates the value of a clean environment. The challenge is creating policy that achieves that goal without compromising jobs, increasing taxes and negatively impacting the rights of property owners” said Rep. Chapin. “I’ve enjoyed that challenge in the past and look forward to continuing to work toward that perfect balance in the future.”
