SENATOR RORABACK, REPRESENTATIVES CHAPIN, CARSON ANNOUNCE STATE FUNDING FOR NEW MILFORD ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

Could Lead To An Additional 2,000 Local Jobs

State Sen. Andrew Roraback, R-Goshen, and State Rep. Clark Chapin, R-New Milford, today announced the State Bond Commission has approved a $2.2 million grant to the Town of New Milford to fund water main, sewer and road improvements to the MedInstill facility on Housatonic Avenue. The item was approved during the Commission’s meeting this morning at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.

On Tuesday, January 16, New Milford residents approved allocating $4.4 million for the infrastructure improvements at the former Nestle complex where Medinstill is now located. The state funds will offset that portion of the town’s investment.

The company will manufacture sterile packaging products for the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and nutrition industries. It currently employs about 50 people and has announced plans to add 450 jobs in during the next several years, as well as the potential for thousands more in the next decade, as part of its expansion.

“Thanks must go to Governor Rell for her generous support of a project which holds such promise for New Milford’s future,” said Sen. Roraback. “This welcome investment comes on top of the hard work and commitment shown by Mayor Murphy and the people of New Milford in supporting this proposal. MedInstill’s presence will lead toward job creation and economic vitality for a community whose potential is limitless.”

“The Governor’s Office and the Department of Economic and Community Development deserve a great deal of credit for recognizing what this means to New Milford and the State of Connecticut,” said Rep. Chapin.  “It’s always easier to go to bat for projects that have such a positive impact on one’s community and I’m pleased to have had such an opportunity.”

“This is great news for New Milford,” said Rep. Carson. “MedInstill’s commitment to renovating the Nestle facility and bringing new jobs the community makes this a very valuable initiative for the town.”

“I appreciate that the Governor and our state legislators understand the importance of this plant expansion not only to job growth in New Milford but to the state’s economy as well,” said New Milford Mayor Patricia Murphy. “This is very much a step forward.”
