REP. CHAPIN APPOINTED TO LEADERSHIP OF REVIEW COMMITTEE

State Rep. Clark Chapin, R-New Milford, has been appointed to serve as Vice-Chairman of the House Republican Bill Screening Committee. The appointment was made by House Republican Leader Lawrence F. Cafero, R-Norwalk.

Rep. Chapin has served on the committee since 2005. His leadership appointment is part of a reorganization following the death of longtime Republican State Rep. Dick Belden, who passed away suddenly in August.

The committee meets prior to each legislative session day to conduct a comprehensive review of legislation that will be brought before the full House of Representatives. Committee members review each bill and amendment for potential flaws, hidden clauses, unintended consequences and improvements that can be made either through revised language or the amendment process.

"The screening committee plays an important oversight role in the legislative process," Rep. Cafero. "The reviews often lead to improvements of bills. Clark’s attention to detail and experience will ultimately benefit residents of the state in his leadership role on the committee."

“It's an honor to receive this appointment,” said Rep. Chapin. “I look forward to the new responsibilities. They offer an opportunity for additional input on legislation in its formative stages that can help both New Milford and the state as a whole.”
