REP. CHAPIN HONORED FOR FARMLAND PRESERVATION EFFORTS

HARTFORD—During a ceremony at the State Capitol on Wednesday November 7, the Working Lands Alliance (WLA) bestowed its Legislator Appreciation Award on State Rep. Clark Chapin, R-New Milford. The organization is a coalition that includes farmers, conservation organizations, food security groups and local government association that works to halt the loss of Connecticut’s remaining farmland.

In presenting the award, the WLA noted Rep. Chapin’s efforts as Ranking Member (House Republican Leader) of the Legislature’s Environment Committee, which has cognizance over agricultural issues.

"Representative Chapin is a steadfast and reliable ally to all farmland preservation supporters,” said Jiff Martin, Program Director of WLA  “Given his farming background, he has a keen sense of what is at stake while we look for strategies that will increase the pace of farmland preservation.  He has shown exceptional leadership through his willingness to introduce and support visionary policies that will increase the state's long-term commitment to local agriculture and farm viability."

"It's an honor to be acknowledged by Working Lands Alliance, a key player in farmland preservation efforts," said Rep. Chapin. "As we continue to see farmland developed, the sense of importance and urgency increases.  I often hear from area residents that we must preserve our rural character and scenic vistas.  Continuing to focus on policies that help preserve the land and enhance agricultural viability is crucial in ensuring that our agricultural heritage here in Connecticut is not lost forever."
