REP. CHAPIN APPOINTED TO HOUSE LEADERSHIP POSITION

State Rep. Clark Chapin, R-New Milford, has been appointed to serve as an Assistant House Minority Leader. The appointment was made by House Republican Leader Lawrence F. Cafero, R-Norwalk.

Rep. Chapin has served in the Legislature since January 2001 and was elected to his fifth term in November 2008.

As an Assistant Minority Leader, he will help formulate Caucus positions and policy.

"Clark Chapin brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the legislature that will also be assets for our leadership team," Rep. Cafero. "His common-sense approach to lawmaking is needed now more than ever in Hartford."

“I look forward to the additional responsibilities of serving as an assistant leader,” said Rep. Chapin. “I expect it will be a challenging and exciting two years.”

Rep. Chapin also recently received his committee appointments for the 2009-2010 legislative sessions.  He will continue to serve as Ranking Member (House Republican leader) of the Legislature’s Environment Committee and as a member of the Human Services Committee and Public Safety and Security Committee.

Finally, for the 2009-2010 sessions, Rep. Chapin will serve as chairman of the House Republican Bill Screening Committee. The committee meets prior to each legislative session day to conduct a comprehensive review of legislation that will be brought before the full House of Representatives. Committee members review each bill and amendment for potential flaws, hidden clauses, unintended consequences and improvements that can be made either through revised language or the amendment process.
