RX-Xpress to visit Suffield Senior Center on April 30
State Rep. Ruth Fahrbach (R-Windsor) announces that the Department of Social Services (DSS) is slated bring the Rx-Xpress bus to the Suffield Senior Center on Wednesday, April 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Seniors are urged to visit the and get a “benefits check-up.” The visit is being conducted in conjunction with the North Central Area on Aging.
“It is my hope that seniors will take advantage of this opportunity to get information on what state programs may be available to assist them,” said Rep. Fahrbach.
The Rx-Xpress bus is a unique and useful tool that the department has been using for the past three years to bring services and information to mostly rural areas of the state. The bus is used as a mobile center that offers a vast amount of information, including enrollment assistance and eligibility screening for programs and benefits. Residents will be able to visit the bus and determine, right at that time, if they qualify for certain assistance programs.
The bus is equipped with four computer workstations with high-speed Internet access, booths that ensure privacy during counseling and interviewing, and DSS workers that can assist people who are struggling with issues such as heating assistance, housing, health care, childcare, food stamps, social security concerns and numerous other state and federal programs.
State Rep. Ruth Fahrbach represents the 61st District, including Suffield, and parts of Windsor and East Granby, in the General Assembly.
