REP. FREY COMMENDS APPOINTMENT OF RIDGEFIELD RESIDENT LINDA ANDERSON TO STATE LIBRARY BOARD |

Linda Anderson of Ridgefield was recently appointed to serve on the State Library Board. Ms. Anderson is succeeding Ms. Mary J. Etter whose term was up. Ms. Anderson’s term is effective immediately, and is coterminous with that of the appointing authority, House Republican Leader Larry Cafero.
A native of Avon, Linda is a 1986 graduate of Simmons College in Boston and has been a Ridgefield resident since 2002. She is actively involved in various school activities and is a volunteer with several community organizations. Linda is a licensed real estate agent with CENTURY 21 Landmark Properties. Prior to her real estate career, Linda was a client management professional at Fidelity Investments, PriceWaterhouseCoopers and lastly as a principal with Mercer Human Resource consulting.
Linda and her husband Chris, a Ridgefield native, live on Pinecrest Road and have two daughters.
The State Library Board determines policy for the State Library. Their statutory charge and responsibilities are 1) the supervision of the State Library by a State Librarian; 2) Having plans for state-wide library service, other than for school libraries; 3) to maximum state participation in federal aid for public libraries; 4) establishing standards for principal public libraries; 5) appointing an advisory council for library planning and development; 6) instituting and conducting programs of state-wide library service; 7) maintaining the state's principal law library; 8) The State Library Board determines policy for the State Library and provides for the supervision of the State Library by a State Librarian appointed by the Board.
Under the direction of the State Library Board, the State Librarian is responsible for developing and directing a public records management program. The State Library Board approves rules and regulations for the state publications depository library system, the retention, destruction and transfer of documents; the Connecticard program; and statewide library programs. The State Library Board administers a $14 million annual budget and provides leadership and support services to Connecticut's 169 public libraries.
The twelve-member board membership includes the Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court, the Chief Court Administrator, the state Commissioner of Education and three individuals that specifically include an experienced librarian, archivist and museum expert. The balance of the board is made up of members who represent the general public.

"I have known Linda for several years -- and her husband since junior high school. Linda's background in management and customer service combined with her strong work ethic and willingness to give back to our greater community makes her a perfect fit for the state library board."
