REP. FREY INVITES RIDGEFIELD VETERANS TO RECEIVE STATE MEDAL

Deadline for Application is July 30th to Receive Medal at September 21st Ceremony

More than 750 veterans in Ridgefield have been sent letters inviting them to apply for the Connecticut Veterans Wartime Service Medal.

State Rep. John H. Frey, R-111th District, is organizing a ceremony honoring Ridgefield veterans who served during America’s armed conflicts.

The medals will be presented at an official ceremony on Sunday, September 21, 2008, at the Ridgefield Playhouse. Veterans are urged to submit their applications by July 30, 2008, to the office of John Frey, Legislative Office Building, Hartford, CT 06106-1591.

Connecticut offers a Wartime Service Medal to all veterans of the armed forces with qualifying military service who are currently residents of the state. Rep. Frey is encouraging veterans to apply for the medal and to receive it at the local ceremony.

The Deputy Commissioner of the State Department of Veterans’ Affairs, John Wiltse, will preside over the event. The event is co-sponsored by Senator Judith Freedman, the Ridgefield Marine Corps League and the American Legion Post #78.

“This is an important event honoring the sacrifice, patriotism and valor of many Ridgefield veterans,” said Rep. Frey. “It is appropriate to recognize the men and women who answered our nation’s call to help defend liberty and freedom. I am honored to be a part of this ceremony honoring those in our communities who served.”

Rep. Frey is helping to organize the event, similar to one which has been held in other areas of the state.

For further information on the award, the application process or the event, please contact Rep. Frey’s Capitol office at 1-800-842-1423.

John Frey serves the 111th Assembly District of Ridgefield in the state House of Representatives.
