REP. FREY GIVES UPDATE ON VETERANS STATE MEDAL

RIDGEFIELD- State Rep. John H. Frey, R-111th District, has announced that more than 160 veterans in Ridgefield have applied for the Connecticut Veterans Wartime Service Medal.

Rep. John H. Frey, R-111th District, is organizing a ceremony honoring Ridgefield veterans who served during America’s armed conflicts and sent 750 letters asking veterans to apply.   The nearly fifty Ridgefielders who were previously awarded the Connecticut Wartime Service Medal will also be recognized at the September ceremony.

"The response to the invitation to apply has been very high," said Representative Frey.  "Our veterans deserve all the recognition we can possible bestow upon them for their service to our country.  I am looking forward to seeing these Service Medals presented to our neighbors next month."

The medals will be presented at an official ceremony on Sunday, September 21, 2008, at the Ridgefield Playhouse. Veterans were urged to submit their applications by July 30, 2008, to the office of John Frey, Legislative Office Building, Hartford, CT 06106-1591. Rep. Frey will continue to take late applications if there are veterans who still wish to apply.

"We have been advised that there is still time to process applications.   Any veteran who would like to apply and needs an application should call my office or my home and I will make arrangements to get an application to them," Rep. Frey said.

Connecticut offers a Wartime Service Medal to all veterans of the armed forces with qualifying military service who are currently residents of the state.
