Gov. Rell, Rep. Hamzy: $300,000 State Grant Okayed for Streetscape Improvements on Route 6 in Terryville Project will Enhance Safety, Attractiveness of Historic Downtown Terryville |

The State Bond Commission has approved a $300,000 state grant that will help fund several streetscape improvements along Route 6 in Terryville, Governor M. Jodi Rell and state Representative William A. Hamzy, announced today.
The grant was authorized under the state’s Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP). The State Bond Commission approved more than $19.7 million in STEAP funds for 72 towns at its regular monthly meeting Friday, March 28, 2008 at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford, enabling 83 projects across the state, including the streetscape improvements on Route 6 in Terryville, to move ahead.
“Small towns like Terryville and Plymouth are very important to the continued vitality of our state.” Governor Rell said. “In addition to being attractive places to live, work and raise our families, they are conservators of open space, where residents and visitors alike can hike, fish, swim or simply enjoy the rural ambience of a quiet New England town. I am committed to ensuring a better future for all of our communities. Terryville’s streetscape project will further that goal and I was pleased to support it.”
“The streetscape improvements along this section of Route 6 will enhance the attractiveness of Terryville’s downtown area and improve pedestrian safety,” said Representative Hamzy, R-78th District, who worked with the Governor’s office and the state Office of Policy and Management to secure the grant. “When completed, this project will encourage more people to visit historic downtown Terryville, enjoy the sights and patronize local restaurants and other businesses. The streetscape improvements are very important to the future of our town. They will help stimulate economic growth, create more jobs and increase property values. I’d like to thank Governor Rell and the bond commission for their strong support for this project.”
The grant will help finance the construction of streetscape improvements on Route 6 from Benedict Street to Prospect Street in Terryville, as well as designs for improvements from Benedict Street to Allen Street. The improvements will include concrete sidewalks, brick pavers, lighting, curbing, and traffic calming measures.
