Hartford – Senator Joseph Crisco (D-Woodbridge) and Representatives Linda Gentile (D-Derby and Themis Klarides (R-Derby) announced that the City of Derby has been awarded a state grant of $20,000 to make improvements to the Derby Greenway.

The Derby Greenway is a recreational walkway along the Naugatuck River.  It officially opened last October, and been successful in attracting hundreds of visitors who use it on a regular basis.

The $20,000 will be used to for entry markers and other improvements for the Derby Greenway.  It will cover the cost for the engineering and installation of attractive stone markers that will be used at the beginning and end of the greenway. The state grant can also be used with other funding sources to make additional improvements.

“The Derby Greenway is enjoyed by a large number of residents, and I am glad to see this investment in its condition,” said Representative Klarides.

“This funding will allow for new upgrades for the Derby Greenway that has turned out to be a very popular attraction for residents,” said Senator Crisco.  “This is a very worthwhile state funded project, and another positive indication of the local legislative delegation working together to benefit the City of Derby.”

“I’m so pleased that we are able to provide the additional money for this project,” said Representative Gentile.  “The greenway walking trail is used by people from all over, not just the valley.  This walkway is just one way for us to showcase our river.”
