$200,000 in ‘STEAP’ Funding Announced for Old Tavern Park in Orange |

Governor M. Jodi Rell announced today that $200,000 in new state funding will soon be available to help the Town of Orange pay for a new parking lot and other improvements at Old Tavern Park.
The funding comes from the state’s Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP), and is expected to be approved at the next meeting of the State Bond Commission.
“This new state grant of $200,000 will enable Orange to complete the new parking area and improve vehicle routes and pedestrian walkways at Old Tavern Park,” Governor Rell said. “Residents of Orange and their guests will have a more convenient and attractive gateway to the park, as well as noteworthy amenities for driving and walking.”
State Representative Themis Klarides said, “Governor Rell’s support for the Old Tavern Park project is a nice boost for the taxpayers of Orange. This $200,000 grant will bring major improvements to a first-class recreational resource. I am glad to support this project and assist the town as it works with the state to administer the grant.”
A total of $20 million has been authorized for more than 100 small towns under the STEAP program this fiscal year. The Bond Commission, chaired by Governor Rell, will meet Friday, October 6, at 10:30 a.m. in the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
