Klarides Announces Shepherd Farm Open Space Grant

HARTFORD- State Representatives Themis Klarides (R-114) today announced that an open space grant has been awarded for the Shepherd Farm property in Woodbridge.  The grant award through the Department of Environmental Protection is in the amount of $225,675.00 and will go toward the preservation of 35.8 acres.

The property is undeveloped hard wood forest and wetlands that links with the Woodbridge Greenway System that is part of the Blue Trail Network.  It is adjacent preserved park and water company property and State lands at West Rock Ridge that total over 2,500 acres.

“Preserving the character and heritage of this acreage in Woodbridge is critical to maintaining the community we have for future generations,” said Representative Klarides.  “I want to extend my thanks to Governor Rell and the DEP for their work in making this grant available to the Woodbridge community.  Preserving open space in Connecticut remains a top priority for me in the legislature, and I am especially pleased when we can preserve lands right here in our home communities.”

The grant award for Woodbridge is part of a larger Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition Program for Fall of 2006, announced today by Governor Rell and the Department of Environmental Protection.
