Klarides Appointed to NCSL Health Committee

House Speaker Selects Legislator to National Standing Committee

HARTFORD – Speaker of the House James Amann (D-Milford) has selected Deputy House Republican Leader Themis Klarides (R-Derby) to serve on the Health Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL).

NCSL is a bi-partisan organization that serves legislators and staff from all fifty of the United States, as well as its commonwealths and territories.  The organization provides technical information, research, and assistance as well as providing an opportunity and forum for policymakers from around the country to exchange ideas and experiences from across all state governments.

The Health Committee is one of the eleven standing committees of NCSL which will examine issues such as Medicaid, long term care, mental health policy, pandemic hazards, children’s’ health insurance, substance abuse prevention, and federal tobacco policy just to name a few.

“I am deeply honored to be selected by Speaker Amann to serve on this important committee,” said Representative Klarides.  “Connecticut is facing a number of critical issues right now with regards to public health.  Serving on this committee will allow me to exchange information, ideas and data with legislators and staff from across the nation, allowing our state to benefit from their knowledge and experiences on a number of topics.  I look forward to the challenges and responsibilities that being on this committee presents.”

The next meeting of NCSL’s Health Committee is scheduled for April 19th in Washington D.C.
