Rep. Labriola, Sen. DeLuca: Legislation Providing Funding For Oxford High School Science Center Signed Into Law

State Representative David Labriola, R-131, and Senator Louis C. DeLuca, R-32, today announced that legislation, providing additional state reimbursement for a science and technical center, in the new Oxford High School was signed into law by Governor M. Jodi Rell. The governor signed the legislation on Tuesday, June 6.

Public Act 06-158, which was co-sponsored by Rep. Labriola and Sen. DeLuca, provides up to $500,000, at the current reimbursement rate for the science and technical center. The school is scheduled to open in September 2007 but will not begin educating the full four grades of students until September 2009.

“The legislation requires that the new science center be available to area elementary school children,” said Rep. Labriola, who serves as Ranking Member (House Republican Leader) of the Legislature’s Education Committee. “This will therefore be a unique facility for both Oxford High School and the entire region.”

"I am glad to see this funding officially approved for the town of Oxford, as this science and technical center will allow the new high school to provide a first rate facility for students interested in pursuing further educational opportunities in these high-demand fields," said Senator Deluca.
