Rep. Labriola, Sen. Kane: Funding Approved to Help Oxford Develop Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal System |

State Bond Commission Okays $2,500 Grant at Regular Monthly Meeting Today
The State Bond Commission today approved a $2,500 grant for Oxford that will help the town develop a state certified computer assisted mass appraisal system for local property tax administration, state Representative David K. Labriola, R-131st District, and state Senator Rob Kane, R-32nd District, announced today.
The bond commission approved the grant at its regular monthly meeting Friday, March 28, 2008 at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
The grant also will help pay for the training of town employees in assessment and tax collection practices, Representative Labriola said.
“Computerized appraisal systems help make revaluations more accurate and improve and fine tune both assessment and tax collection practices,” Representative Labriola said. “If residents believe their properties have been fairly and accurately assessed, they will be less likely to file assessment appeals.”
“Computerization has made municipal services more efficient and saved taxpayers millions of dollars over the years,” Senator Kane said. “It should have much the same effect when it comes to assessment and tax collection practices.”
