Gov. Rell, Rep Piscopo, Sen. DeLuca: $70,000 Okayed for Playground at Black Rock School in Thomaston

The State Bond Commission has approved a $70,000 grant that will help pay for a playground fully accessible to children with disabilities at the Black Rock Elementary School in Thomaston, Governor M. Jodi Rell, state Representative John E. Piscopo, R-76th District, and state Senator Louis C. DeLuca, R-32nd District, said today.

The Bond Commission approved the grant at its monthly meeting today (March 31, 2006). The $70,000 grant will complement $30,000 raised locally – mainly by the school’s Parent-Teacher Association – for construction of the new playground, Representative Piscopo said.

“The playground will memorialize the late Noah Rogozinski, son of Blaine and Renee Rogozinski, of Thomaston, who organized and led the local fund raising effort for the project. Many other people in town also were involved in the effort. This grant will provide the funding needed to complete the project in a timely manner. I’d like to thank Governor Rell and Senator Lou DeLuca for their work on behalf of this important community project,” Representative Piscopo said.

“I am pleased to support state funding to help make this playground project a reality for all children at Black Rock School and for the entire community,” the Governor said.  “I have fond memories of reading to the children at Black Rock during my time as lieutenant governor, and I look forward to visiting again in the future.”

“It is great news that the state is going to pitch in and help Thomaston’s community leaders secure the last bit of funding for this very worthwhile project,” Senator DeLuca said.  “The local PTA did a tremendous job of raising funds and awareness throughout town, and they deserve much credit for making this playground a reality.”
