Rep. Stripp Compiles Perfect Voting Record for 2006 Legislative Session

Was Present and Voting for All 321 Votes Taken by state House of Representatives

State Representative John E. Stripp established a perfect record for votes cast on the floor of the state House of Representatives during the 2006 legislative session, according to data provided by the House Clerk’s Office.

Representative Stripp, R-135th District, was present and voting for all of the 321 votes taken on the state House floor. This year, only 21 out of 151 state representatives had perfect attendance records for floor votes, according to the House Clerk’s Office.

“State legislators are the advocates at the State Capitol in Hartford for the people who elected them,” Representative Stripp said. “It is an awesome responsibility that includes helping constituents with problems they may be having with state agencies, serving on legislative committees, meeting with local elected officials to determine ways state government can help our towns and working with officials from various state departments and agencies to secure grants for critical local projects.”

“However, our most basic responsibility is to be present and voting when bills that may become law in Connecticut come before us for a vote,” Representative Stripp said. “While some bills are more important than others, and some may even appear to be frivolous or trivial, we owe it to our constituents to cast informed votes on all of them. Sometimes even seemingly innocuous measures can have unforeseen consequences once they are enacted into law that can require us to revisit them years later. We need to be aware of how those measures will affect the people of our districts if they become law and be prepared to vote on them accordingly.”

“Since my first term in the state House of Representatives in 1993, I have tried to maintain perfect or near-perfect attendance records for votes taken on the floor of the House,” Representative Stripp said. “For the most part, I have been successful in that effort. I take pride in the fact that I established a perfect attendance record this year. It will be one of my most important objectives during the 2007 and 2008 legislative sessions as well,” Representative Stripp said.
