Gov. Rell, Rep. Stripp: $200,000 Grant Approved for Expansion, Improvements to Easton’s Animal Shelter

The State Bond Commission has approved a $200,000 grant that will help pay for the construction of an expanded and improved animal shelter in Easton, Governor M. Jodi Rell and state Representative John E. Stripp, R- 135th District, announced today.

The funding, which was approved at today’s (October 6, 2006) Bond Commission meeting, comes from the state’s Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP).

“The residents of Easton deserve to have a safe and healthy facility to care for local animals as they wait for adoption,” said Governor Rell.  “Easton officials have deemed this shelter to be a priority, and I am pleased we are able to provide the capital funds to help with the new construction that is planned.”

“The existing facility is less than perfect for the animals that are kept there. This project will go a long way toward improving conditions at the animal shelter and creating a healthier environment for both the animals and the dedicated staff who care for them,” said Representative Stripp, who advocated for the project and helped secure the grant.

A total of $20 million has been authorized for more than 100 small towns under the STEAP program this fiscal year.
