REP. STRIPP PARTICIPATES IN ENERGY BILL SIGNING |

HARTFORD – State Representative John Stripp (R-Easton, Redding and Weston) today joined Gov. M. Jodi Rell for a public bill signing of the Energy bill passed in the recent legislative session, which makes a number of substantial and beneficial changes to Connecticut’s long-term energy policy. The ceremony took place at the R.C. Bigelow Tea Co. in Fairfield, a family owned company that recently installed the second-largest solar project in Connecticut.
“This bill is an important start to encouraging each of us to do our part in conserving our scarce energy resources. Collectively it can make a major difference," said Rep. Stripp.
The legislation creates a state policy for medium- and long-term energy efficiency and alternative energy projects and provides real incentives for energy efficiency – including tax breaks for Energy Star appliances and cars that get 40 miles per gallon or better on the highway.
The law also sets “green” building standards for new state buildings and requires equipment bought by the state to meet Energy Star standards
The intent of this legislation is to promote renewable energy, reduce demand, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and help reduce energy costs for residents,” said Rep. Stripp.
The legislation passed the State Senate in 32-3 vote and the House by a 128-19 vote.
