REP. STRIPP ANNOUNCES STATE DOLLARS FOR EASTON SENIOR CENTER

HARTFORD -Representative John Stripp, R-135 along with other legislative leaders announced that the state bonding package being voted on today by the General Assembly will include a grant to Easton for renovations at the senior center.

In the bond package, Easton will receive grants-in-aid in the amount of $219,510 for renovations of the senior center.

“This grant for the Easton Senior Center will provide improved services for Easton's elders,” said Rep. Stripp.

"Funding for worthwhile projects in education, health care, public safety and the environment are the hallmarks of this bonding package. The legislation is a giant step forward for Connecticut,” said Rep. Stripp.

Over 13% of Easton’s population is aged 65 years or older and the median age is 40.4 years—the highest in the region.  It is this aging population that will likely seek services from the senior center in the coming years.

The state bonding package also includes $90 million over the next two years for bridge repair and inspections establishing the “Fix-it-First” program for bridges throughout Connecticut and also $415 million to fund municipal clean water projects around the state.

The passage of the state bonding package is the first step in the legislative process. The bill then goes to the Governor for her signature. After that, the funds for the bonding projects must be allocated from the State Bond Commission which is chaired by the Governor.
